The iPhone 14 release date is fast approaching. We’re expecting four new iPhone 14 models this year, and they’ll likely be available for pre-order in just a few months. Below you’ll find the full details of everything we know about the release date, possible delays, and more.
iPhone timeline by year
While early models were usually introduced during the first half of the year, Apple has since moved to a consistent schedule of announcements and releases of new iPhone models in September. Here is a brief timeline of iPhone releases over the past few years:
iPhone 13: September 23, 2021 iPhone 12: October 23, 2020 iPhone 11: September 20, 2019 iPhone XS: September 21, 2018 iPhone X: November 3, 2017 iPhone 8: September 22, 2017 iPhone 7 : September 16, 2016
As you can see, the iPhone release schedule has become relatively stable, with two important exceptions. The iPhone 12 series has been delayed by a month due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The iPhone X was announced in September but not released until November. As you remember, iPhone X featured a completely new design and was the first iPhone with Face ID.
iPhone 14 release date news
The iPhone 14 line is expected to bring camera upgrades, a redesign of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, and more. For example, Pro models should have a hole punch + tablet-shaped cutout. The front camera is expected to be updated, a new purple color could be offered, and there are rumors of an always-on display.
Everything indicates that this year the iPhone 14 will be announced and released in September. This includes the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. This is the entire line of new iPhone models that we expect this year.
Based on history, Apple usually holds an annual special event to announce new iPhone models on the first or second Tuesday in September. This year it will be September 6th or 13th. Given that Labor Day in the US is celebrated on September 5th, the most likely date for this year’s keynote will be September 13th.
Given all of the above, we still cannot completely rule out the possibility of delays. As we have discussed many times, there are many issues affecting the supply chain right now, from shortages to shutdowns caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
So far, we’ve only seen one report pointing to delays in the production of the iPhone 14. And even that report indicated that the delays affected the iPhone 14 Max and not the other three modes. Ming-Chi Kuo revealed that the iPhone 14 lineup is still in preparation for launch and release in September. However, he noted that the iPhone 14 Max is “behind”, but the situation is “under control”.
Apple, however, will always prioritize iPhone production over other products. The iPhone is the company’s biggest product, the biggest revenue earner, and the biggest concern for Wall Street investors. If there are further supply chain issues, we will likely see other products delayed before the iPhone 14 is delayed.
