Rockstar Games is said to have been thinking about remastering Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto 4 a few years ago. At least that’s what one says Tweet from the well-known leaker Tez2 out. The user refers to a “reliable source”. Ultimately, however, the company decided against it.
Plans to remaster GTA 4 and Red Dead Redemption have been scrapped
The leak does not explain why Rockstar did not want to develop remasters of the two popular games. According to Tez2, it could have something to do with the rather sobering Definitive Edition of the GTA Trilogy. However, this did not appear until 2021, and according to the leak, the projects were discontinued a few years ago.
A remaster for the two titles is currently not in development, but at least both Red Dead Redemption and GTA 4 can be played on the Xbox Series X | S through backwards compatibility. However, since this is of course not as exciting as a real remake, fans have long wanted remasters of these two titles.
According to the leak, Rockstar has already scrapped their plans for this, but that doesn’t mean that remasters are completely off the table. While fans shouldn’t expect remakes anytime soon, if the community continues to call for remakes of the two titles, it’s likely that Rockstar Games will come up with remastered versions of Red Dead Redemption again (buy now €84.90) and Grand Theft Auto 4 thinks.
