Apple is about to announce a new “entry-level” iPad without a jack port or Lightning socket but still with TouchID.
While everyone has their eyes glued to the beginning of September and the release of the iPhone 14, Apple is also preparing other products for this end of the year and this is particularly the case of the iPad d entry level which should have the right to a tenth version. As a reminder, this Apple tablet is now marketed at 389 €. This device was entitled to an update in 2021, but for several years the external changes were quite few.
Today information sites like MacRumors or 9to5Mac ensure that Apple is about to kick in the anthill and change many elements on its new iPad. The first intervention, expected, which should nevertheless be talked about, is the removal of the 3.5 mm jack port from the iPad.
A 10th iPad in continuity?
The “entry-level” version of the tablet was the last portable product (not counting the MacBooks) to still have the right to this connection port for headphones and headphones. Among other changes that are likely to arrive on the Apple tablet, the recent report from MySmartPrice indicates that Apple could choose USB-C instead of the Lightning port.
In terms of power, this new iPad should follow in the footsteps of the current version. Today the entry-level tablet works with an A13 processor, Apple could therefore climb a step further and offer an A14 chip in its tablet. In all likelihood, the basic iPad should nevertheless keep its Home button and therefore Touch ID.
Arrived with the iPhone X, the Face ID functionality which allows unlocking by facial recognition is still too expensive to make its arrival on the least expensive products of the Apple brand, whether it is the entry-level iPad or the iPhone SE.
A keynote just for iPads in October?
The various reports around this new iPad expect an announcement during the fall. Other rumors are circulating at the moment regarding the release date of iPadOS 16. According to internal leaks, Apple’s tablet operating system could wait until October to be entitled to a big update. Apple could thus kill with one stone by offering a keynote in honor of its tablets.
The entry-level iPad is available today on Apple’s online store for €389. No one yet knows what the price of the next model will be, but given the developments, it is not impossible that Apple will slightly increase the bill, exceeding the 400 euro mark.
