Update from July 5, 2022 (8:30 a.m.): We don’t have to beat around the bush: the sour cucumber summer doldrums have begun – and that’s especially true for fresh software.

With F1 22* While a major title has only just come out, what PS5 owners are really waiting for are blockbuster caliber ones God of War: Ragnarok. However, there is still no date for this – and no impetus can be expected from Gamescom in this regard.

Very fundamentally, there is very little that is spectacular in terms of software in the coming months, with the exception of the PS5 remake of The Last of Us Part 1*, which will be released on September 2nd.

This ‘Covid gap’, which is now fully apparent, will certainly also be visible at the end of July when Sony Interactive presents the figures for the second quarter (April to June). It will be exciting to what extent the relaunch of PlayStation Plus is already bearing fruit.

In any case, the announced PS5 production increase has not yet been recognized on the market: the drops are usually rare and small – only received at intervals of several weeks Amazon* & Co. times a larger delivery.

The MediaMarkt/Saturn group is currently at the top of our list of favorites because the PlayStation 5 was last sold online there in May (!). Message from July 4, 2022 (8:30 a.m.): Welcome to a new PS5 ticker week that will hopefully bring good news for everyone interested in PlayStation 5.

The balance of the past week is ambiguous: The XXL drop from Amazon* faces a variety of smaller campaigns – here a few devices at GameStop, there a contingent at Computeruniverse or MyToys, in between the usual ones alternates*-Packages.

The fact that large and reliable ‘drop organizers’ like Saturn*, MediaMarkt*, Euronics*, Medimax or Müller have not sold a PS5 online for weeks, sometimes months. Almost 100 days have now passed at Medimax: The last campaign took place in March.

However, the truth is that some of the consoles ended up directly in the branches, as readers keep telling us. It’s still worth asking the games department of electronics stores or specialist dealers – with a bit of luck you can take the box with you.

Unfortunately, some branch managers still charge surcharges on the list price, which in our view is not justified: Games and accessories that are included provide a sufficient margin, so you don’t have to rip off customers with a ‘hardship allowance’.

Speaking of rip-off: As a result of the Amazon drop last Wednesday, the number of PS5 bundles in their original packaging on Ebay* increased slightly (to almost 580), but by no means to the extent that would have been the case after previous XXL campaigns. Which suggests that scalpers and resellers are starting to lose interest – also because it has become much more difficult to get rid of the console at inflated prices.

With a projected figure of well over 1 million PS5 owners in Germany, the pressure on demand is simply much lower than it was half a year ago or even before Christmas 2021.
