By David Wetzel New York (Knewz) — A new omicron COVID variant is making up the majority of cases in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Conrol and Prevention. Data released by the CDC show that the BA.5 variant is now making up more than half (53.6 percent) of all cases in the U.S. BA.2.12.1 continues to be prominent as well as it accounts for 27.2 percent of cases. According to the data, the BA.1.1 and B.1.1.529 variants are no longer circulating, and the BA.2 (2.8 percent) is nearly gone. The BA.4 variant is still accounting for 16.5 percent of cases.
