It was THE big deal of the iPhone 13s when they were launched last year: with the Cinematic mode, we were going to be able to make films like in Hollywood with effects of depth and blur on characters and objects. All in real time or in post-production with iMovie or Final Cut.

When it’s done right, it’s utterly stunning and Apple had multiplied the demonstration videos. Kathryn Bigelow, Oscar-winning director (point break, Minesweepers, Zero Dark Thirty…) made a advertising touting the cinematic qualities of the iPhone 13 Pro, including Cinematic Mode.

After this proliferation of creativity, we must all the same admit that there was not much to put in front of the eyes of the marketing side of Apple, except for the short film directed by Park Chan-wook at the beginning of Februaryin which cinematic effects take center stage.

Will Cinematic mode join slofies (remember) to the graveyard of false good ideas from Apple? It’s up to you to tell us by answering our survey of the day: have you adopted the Cinematic mode?
