By Richard Horgan Los Angeles (Knewz) — It’s one of the longest public polling tracks. Since 1939, Gallup has measured the U.S. public’s use of alcohol. In that inaugural year, 58 percent of Americans said they imbibed with liquor, wine or beer. It has increased significantly since then. The latest July 5-26 reading puts the drinking portion of Americans at 67 percent. While the highest percentage in the history of the poll was 71 percent from 1976 through 1978, Gallup astutely notes that they did not ask this question in 2020 during the first year of the pandemic.
