God of War Ragnarök

God of War Ragnarök is an upcoming action-adventure game developed by Santa Monica Studio and will be published by Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE). It is scheduled to be released on November 9, 2022 for the PlayStation 4 (PS4) and PlayStation 5 (PS5). It will be the ninth installment in the God of War series, the ninth chronologically, and the sequel to 2018’s God of War. Loosely based on Norse mythology, the game will be set in ancient Scandinavia and feature series protagonists Kratos and his teenage son Atreus. Serving as the finale to the Norse era of the series, the game will cover Ragnarök, a series of events that bring about the end of days, and depicts the deaths of some of the Norse gods, which was foretold to happen in the previous game after Kratos killed the Æsir god Baldur.

A first look at God of War: Ragnarök

Peppen!

Previously, we only got a short teaser for the upcoming God of War: Ragnarök, the sequel to the phenomenal God of War from 2018, but during tonight’s Playstaion party, we got a proper trailer for the upcoming game. From what we saw in the trailer, the game seems to have a bit more lively environments, an older Atreus and a still bitter Kratos. God of War: Ragnarök will be released next year.

A damn short teaser for the next God of War

Tag Ragnarök 2021!

As a “one last thing” during tonight’s Playstation 5 Showcase, a very short and action-packed teaser was delivered for the God of War sequel, but despite the shortness, it’s hard not to be tagged by the bastards. The game is expected to go by the name God of War: Ragnarok and release will take place next year on Playstation 5.

The new God of War story will end in Ragnarök

Trilogies take too long

The God of War series has, as is well known, been properly rebooted with the latest game released in 2018. Instead of Greek mythology, we met Kratos in a world full of gods from Nordic mythology, but in true God of War spirit, Kratos became shit on these too supernatural individuals. The original games told a story that stretched over three games, but it seems that the new story will end already in the next chapter. In an interview with Youtuber Kaptain Kuba, Cory Barlog, the game’s game director, says that this will happen for a couple of reasons. First, it took about five years to produce the first game in the rebooted game series, and if the new game series were to become a trilogy, the story would take 15 years to tell. It’s quite a long time. Furthermore, Barlog says this about the story: “Given where the team was at and where Eric was at with what he wanted to do, I was like, ‘Look, I think we can actually do this in the second story. Most of what we were trying to do from the beginning was to tell something about Kratos and Atreus. The core of the story’s engine is really the relationship between these two characters and the complexity radiates out like ripples in a pond. We could make it an ocean and have those ripples just go for thousands of miles, but is that necessary and is that beneficial, or are we feeling like, ‘You know what, it’s just spreading it too far apart?’ The ripples get too far apart and you lose the plot a little bit. ” God of War: Ragnarök will be released next year for PS4 and PS5. In the video below you can see the whole interview with Cory Barlog.
