Samsung would announce its first tablet with a folding screen in February 2023. Thanks to this new type of touch slate, the South Korean group could seek to nibble on the market share of the iPad, the number 1 in the sector.
According to the information shared on the South Korean platform Naver, Samsung will launch its first tablet with a folding screen at the beginning of next year. The Seoul giant would announce the device at the same time as the Galaxy Tab S9 range. These are high-end tablets that will succeed the Galaxy Tab S8.
If Samsung sticks to its usual schedule, the presentation could take place as soon as February 2023. This year, the brand has indeed presented the Tab S8 at an Unpacked conference on February 9. In the process, the Galaxy S22 had been presented. We can therefore expect the folding tablet, the Tab S9 and the Galaxy S23 to be presented simultaneously.

A tablet that folds in three?
For now, the design of Samsung’s folding tablet is still a mystery. Mirroring the brand’s folding smartphones, the tablet should allow you to take advantage ofa large display area. Once folded, we imagine that the device could look like a small tablet, like the iPad mini from Apple. Once unfolded, the slate will be able to benefit from a large 12-inch screen, like the Tab S8 Ultra or the iPad Pro. It is not impossible that the screen is even bigger.
Note that Samsung’s folding tablet project has been talked about several times in recent years. The device was particularly noted in patent filings or through prototypes presented at trade shows, such as CES in Las Vegas. Last January, Samsung also showed a tablet that folds in threethe Flex S. Was it a taste of the tablet?
Samsung would seek to compete with iPads
With its folding tablet, Samsung probably hopes to dethrone the Apple iPad, which largely dominates the market. According to IDC figures for the second quarter of 2022, the iPad remains the undisputed leader in the tablet sector with 31% market share. Apple largely outdistances Samsung, the number 2 in the sector with 18% share. Innovative, the tablet with folding screen could it give the advantage to Samsung?
While waiting for its first folding tablet, Samsung is preparing to consolidate its hold on the folding smartphone market. This Wednesday, August 10, 2022, the brand will launch the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Galaxy Z Flip 4. Thanks to this new offer, Samsung hopes to give a boost to its phone sales, which are suffering from the market downturn.
