Korean fantasy will become a game.
Krafton is the developer that is now taking care PUBG: Battlegrounds, but they are also working on another project. The model for the new game they are working on is the fantasy novels The Bird That Drinks Tears by Yeongdo Lee. It was announced last year, and now it’s got its own website where Krafton is looking for more developers. Just like last year, however, the project is described as being in an early stage.
They write that the books have unique fantasy races, beautiful and moving landscapes as well as empathetic and strong stories. Lee’s stories were first published on an Internet forum, but subsequently published as four books. The book’s various themes and elements draw inspiration from East Asian mythologies and cultures, and therefore offer something that differs markedly from Western fantasy.
We don’t have any more info on what kind of game it might be, but fingers crossed that they manage to capture the specialness of one of Korea’s must-love fantasy stories. For their help, they have, among others, the concept artist Iain McCaig, who has worked on Star Wars and Harry Potter, among others.
