It’s been completely renewed for a few days PlaystationPlus also available from us in Europe. The subscription service is not only presented in a fresh design, but of course also with all sorts of new content. Below we present both the fresh user interface and the new content that awaits you in the three tiers Essential, Extra and Premium.
Tile structure hits too many submenus
As usual, Sony remains true to the tile structure of its user interface. However, the revised interface of the offer has turned out to be quite confusing and divided into several submenus, especially on the PC. The most important content can be found in the first two lines, which are still quite clearly structured. You can see which level the available PlayStation Plus content can be assigned to at the top of a tile.
It says either Essential, Extra or Premium in a small extra box. If you click on a tile, a submenu opens and you can take a closer look at the respective category to browse a bit. For a better overview, we recommend that you first sort the content alphabetically. In general, by the way: PlayStation 5 owners get a little more service than PS4 gamers.
This is what PlayStation Plus Essential offers you
Price: 8.99 euros monthly / 24.99 euros quarterly / 59.99 euros annually
The lowest tier of the subscription service, Essential, is the same as the old PlayStation Plus. You will continue to receive monthly “free” games, you can use the online multiplayer of your games and save your saves in the cloud. In addition, you get access to exclusive discounts and content only available to customers of the service. In addition, the Share Play function is included, with which you can let a friend play a game on your console online.
PlayStation 5 owners also get access to additional benefits. This includes, for example, the PlayStation Plus Collection, a selection from several PS4 games, including “Final Fantasy XV: Royal Edition”, “God of War” or “Monster Hunter World”. Full versions of some of the best games from the last generation of consoles are therefore available on demand. Also included on PS5 is the game help, which gives you tips for selected games if you can’t get any further at one point.

This is what PlayStation Plus Extra offers you
Price: 13.99 euros monthly / 39.99 euros quarterly / 99.99 euros annually
The second tier, Extra, gives you all the benefits of the Essential variant plus the catalog of games. This is quite an impressive collection of PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 games. The variety is really decent, ranging from small indie gems to big blockbusters.
With games like “ABZU”, “Assassin’s Creed Valhalla”, “Demon’s Souls” (PS5), “Gravity Rush 2” and “Injustice 2” to “Red Dead Redemption 2” and “The Vanishing of Ethan Carter” should be for there will be something for pretty much every taste. The collection contains around 400 titles in total. For a better overview, we recommend that you sort the titles contained in the games catalog alphabetically.

This is what PlayStation Plus Premium offers you
Price: 16.99 euros monthly / 49.99 euros quarterly / 119.99 euros annually
Of course, you get the most comprehensive package with the highest PlayStation Plus tier, Premium. This includes all the advantages of Essential and Extra and expands them with three additional components. First, there is the classics catalogue. This gives you access to around 300 games that have been released for PS1, PS2, PS3 and the PSP. You only have to do without games from the PlayStation Vita period, because these are not offered.
However, the classic catalog offers you a considerable and varied selection even without a CV title. For example, several games from the “Atelier” series are available, the “Devil May Cry HD Collection”, “Echochrome”, “Heavy Rain” and “Primal” or the “Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection”. As with the games catalogue, there should certainly be something for every taste in the classics catalogue. However, as you can see from the latter title, Sony cheated a bit on the classics catalog and also included some PS4 remasters/remakes in this collection, which is quite a shame.
However, you can’t download some classics to your console, which brings us to the next point: cloud streaming. The new PlayStation Plus includes the benefits of the former PlayStation Now service, which means that you can now stream a wide range of different games. This is especially true for older titles from the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 era that have not yet been ported to subsequent systems. Cloud streaming is also possible on PC. As with the games catalogue, we also recommend that you sort the offer alphabetically for a better overview of the classic catalogue.
The last Premium-exclusive menu item is “Test Games”. As the name suggests, you can download and try out time-limited trial versions of some well-known PlayStation games here. The selection is still rather manageable with 16 titles, but with “Cyberpunk 2077”, “Horizon Forbidden West”, “Tiny Tina’s Wonderland” or the “Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection” there are some real top-class titles on offer.
