The battery percentage has finally been added back to the status bar with today’s release of iOS 16 beta 5. This answers one of the most common iOS requests since Apple removed the badge with the release of the iPhone X.

iPhone battery percentage is back

In iOS 16 beta 5, you can add the battery percentage back to the status bar. Just go to “Settings”, then select “Battery”, then enable the new “Battery Percentage” option. It may even be enabled by default, but that’s only for some users.

When your iPhone is unplugged, you’ll see the regular battery icon, but with a percentage inside. If your iPhone is in low power mode, the battery icon turns yellow but still shows a percentage. If you’re charging, you’ll see a percentage with a small charging icon next to it.

The battery percentage has been a staple of the status bar for iPhone models prior to the iPhone X. With the introduction of the notch and limited space for status bar data, Apple has lowered the percentage. Instead, you had to swipe down into the Control Center to view the percentage.
