Before Amazon Prime Day 2022 with possible offers for Ryzen 7 5800X3D & Co. we would like to know: Which CPU is in your gaming PC?
Next week is Amazon Prime Day 2022 and of course there is a possibility that Ryzen 5000 CPUs from AMD or currently Alder Lakes from Intel will also be reduced in price. After all, the forecasts until the end of the year are not so rosy. But before that, we would like to draw your attention to a current survey.
PCGH regularly asks its readers about the components used in the gaming PC – whether as part of the PCGH database, which is updated once a month, similar to the Steam Surveys, or in specific surveys in the forum. This gives us an overview of which price ranges and which hardware categories the community is most interested in. Today it’s all about processors again: we refer to those until September ongoing survey for Q2 and Q2/2022. The results play an important role in the selection of benchmarks, special tests and investigations of anomalies. They also depict a timeline on which the choice of CPUs can be tracked over several years.
AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D
CPUs in Q4/21 and Q1/22
What were the numbers from the last CPU poll on the PCGH Extreme forums? AMD ended up with a total market share of 67.33 percent, Intel correspondingly at 32.67 percent. The four Ryzen 5000 CPUs available at the time accounted for a good 37 percent of the total market in the forum, which is impressive. Within the AMD group it was even 55 percent, i.e. more than half. For the largest single CPU, there was a head-to-head race between Ryzen 7 5800X (13.3 percent) and Ryzen 9 5900X (13.2 percent). The group around Ryzen 7 3800XT/3800X/3700X is still quite large at 8.83 percent.
At Intel, the Core i9-9900K is by far the most common Intel CPU at 5.2 percent. The group of those with a Core i9-12900K, Core i7-12700K, Core i7-8700K and Core i7-6700K/7700K is almost the same size (a good three percent each). So many generations are gathered at Intel. Alder Lake scored a good 22 percent in the survey at the time.
