This is the novelty of iOS 16 that is totally wonderful for some and completely insignificant for others, we are of course talking about the display of the percentage of remaining autonomy in the battery icon on certain iPhones with Face ID.
Until iOS 16 beta 5 released last night, notched iPhone users were deprived of the exact battery percentage. Finally, yes and no, because it is enough to open the control center to display this precise information. But it is true that it was not possible to have it constantly on the screen, as on the iPhone with Touch ID button.
A new option in the settings of iOS 16 therefore makes it possible to display the percentage in the battery icon on all notched iPhones, with the exception of iPhone mini (probably because it would be unreadable) and iPhone XR and 11 (due to their LCD or lower resolution?).
Apple has shoehorned the percentage into the icon: so that the number is readable, the gauge remains full even when the battery level is below 100%. It is therefore necessary to rely only on the percentage and not on the gauge. This gives something incoherent overall, because when you open the control center, you find the gauge adjusted according to the remaining autonomy, with the percentage next to it. Apple still has some betas to improve this…
The battery indicator of your iPhone, do you prefer it with or without a percentage?
