While iMessage first gets the ability to “unsend” messages in the iOS 16 beta, WhatsApp already provides a similar feature. However, the messaging app owned by Meta (Facebook) is now releasing an update that will allow users to delete messages within two days of sending them.
Delete sent messages in WhatsApp
The change in the ability to delete sent messages was announced by WhatsApp itself on its page. Twitter profile. According to the company, users will now have two days to decide whether or not to send a message in a private or group chat.
Specifically, WhatsApp users will have 2 days and 12 hours to delete a message after it has been sent. Previously, this limit was only 1 hour 8 minutes and 16 seconds – it was specific. To delete a message sent to WhatsApp, all you have to do is press and hold it for a few seconds and then click the Delete button.
Interestingly, while WhatsApp is increasing the time it takes for users to delete a message, Apple is going in the opposite direction with iMessage. In the early betas of iOS 16, users had 15 minutes to unsend a message. Now, with the latest beta releases, that limit has been reduced to two minutes.
This feature has been controversial as some users believe that the options to edit and unsend messages can be used for malicious purposes. This also prompted Apple to add revision history for edited messages to iMessage. Meanwhile, the popular rival of WhatsApp and iMessage Telegram allows users to edit and delete messages without any restrictions.
Rethinking your message? You will now have just over 2 days to delete messages from your chats after you hit the send button.

As noted by MacMagazine, WhatsApp is also working on a feature that allows group admins to delete messages from any user. However, for now, this feature is still only available to beta users. Most recently, WhatsApp released an official tool for migrating from Android to iOS and vice versa, as well as a new beta app for macOS users.
WhatsApp is available for free on the App Store. This requires an iPhone running iOS 12 or later.
