A new movie starring Johnny Depp will be released on Netflix in the last two years.

Depp, who spent most of 2022 in a bitter legal battle with his ex-wife Amber Heard, has not been in a feature film since 2020’s The Great. Now he has been approved for a role in the film La Favorite (“The Favorite”), where he will play the French monarch King Louis XV.

The involvement of Depp and Netflix in the film was first revealed today, July 7, when Bloomberg reportedthat Netflix will help finance and broadcast a new film starring the actor.

However, TechRadar learned about from a Netflix spokesperson that the streaming giant is not funding the film, but has licensed it for posting on its platform after release.

The film “The Favorite” was produced by the French company Why Not Productions. The movie is expected to hit theaters in France in 2023, after which Netflix will wait a full 15 months before it appears in their catalogue. But even then the film will be available only to French subscribers of the service.

French newspaper Le Figaro published some details about the shooting of the film, which is scheduled for this summer and will take place in the historic Palace of Versailles in France.

Together with Depp, Maiwenn Le Besco, known in France simply as Maiwenn, will work on the project. She will both direct and star in the film, which will be a biopic about the life of Jeanne Becou.

Becu, who grew up in poverty as the illegitimate daughter of an impoverished seamstress, went through the court of Louis XV and became his last official mistress.

Together with them, Pierre Richard and Noemi Lvovsky are removed in the film.
