The great journalists of gaming pc spotted a mod with a particular concept. In effect, Black Mesa Classic is a remake on GoldSrc (the Half-Life engine) of Black Mesa, itself a remake of Half-Life on the Half-Life 2 engine. You don’t understand anything about it? Yet it is crystal clear!

In short, Black Mesa Classic aims to recreate the improvements made by Black Mesa on the original engine. It sounds amazing, but the developers have several goals with this project: to improve the GoldSrc (and Half-Life) engine in order to give it a facelift, to create a new base for the whole modding sphere and to allow anyone to play it on any PC, no matter how low-end, thanks to optimization tricks. Suffice to say that for the rest of us, heralds of the consumer society who have invested entire salaries in war machines capable of running ray-tracing games instead of financing charities and saving the world, the interest of this demake is most limited.

A demo for Black Mesa Classic, containing the We’ve Got Hostiles level, was released this Friday. To play it, you just need to download the demo and extract the .zip file in the Half-Life installation folder. To launch it, you can either use the ingame console, or create a shortcut to hl.exe by adding “-console -game bmcdemo” in the “Target” box.
