The new MacBook Air M2 is currently available for pre-order, but the first test run of this machine is already available online. While that was expected, we can now say that the new Air has the same benchmark results as the M2 MacBook Pro.

Since both products use the same chip, it’s more than likely that both will perform the same way. The difference between the two machines is the active cooling system that the M2 MacBook Air does not have. With that in mind, the 13-inch MacBook Pro will technically perform better when you’re doing complex tasks for a longer period of time.

As a Twitter user noted Mr Macintosh (via AppleInsider), The 2022 MacBook Air Geekbench’s first M2 benchmark shows this machine scoring 1899 in the single-core test and 8965 in the multi-core test.

Compared to this benchmark, the 13-inch MacBook Pro scored 1919 single-core and 8928 multi-core.

It’s important to keep in mind that while the M2 chip is used in both the new MacBook Pro and the redesigned MacBook Air, test results and performance may vary slightly.

Apple claims that the M2 chip offers some notable advantages over the previous generation M1 chip: the processor is 18% faster, the GPU is 35% more powerful, and the neural engine is 40% faster. These tests show that the single-core performance of the MacBook Air M2 is about 11.56% faster than the M1 chip, and the multi-core performance is about 19.45%.

The new MacBook Air M2 features the most significant redesign of the MacBook Air lineup in a decade, with the same flat design, larger display and thinner bezels. Like the 2021 MacBook Pro, the front camera is now inside the display cutout.
