Equipment and appearance
The HUAWEI Band 7 fitness bracelet is packaged in a white cardboard box standard for the company with a picture of the device on the front side and a list of key features on the back.
Inside, in addition to the tracker, there is an instruction manual, a warranty card and a magnetic charger with a USB-A connector.
Appearance of the device is classic. It is made of plastic and received a rectangular body shape with rounded edges. My version is black, but other colors will be on sale.
The bracelet stands out from many competitors with a small thickness of 9.9 mm, which makes it more comfortable to wear. In addition, due to the minimum weight of 16 grams, it is practically not felt on the hand.
The front panel is almost entirely represented by the display. Out of the box, it is covered with a shipping film. The screen has a high-quality oleophobic layer and protection. For 3 weeks of use, there were no scratches left on it, and fingerprints rarely appear, but they are easily rubbed off.
On the right side there is a physical button used to unlock the display and enter the menu, the left side is free.
On the back of the case there are sensors for counting the pulse and oxygen content in the blood, as well as contacts for connecting the charger.
The strap of the model is silicone, rather narrow, but long. The number of holes is enough to wear the tracker on both large and small hands. The bracelet can be easily detached, which allows it to be replaced.
The HUAWEI Band 7 tracker received 5 ATM protection, that is, it is not afraid of diving to a depth of 50 meters. This allows you to walk with him in the shower, take a bath, as well as swim in the pool or the sea. It is worth remembering that exposure to a strong pressure of water can lead to its breakdown.
In general, the model is made concisely and stylishly, different body colors will allow you to choose the option to your liking. The dimensions and weight make the fitness tracker barely perceptible, it does not cling to clothes and does not interfere with work or sleep, and therefore it can be worn around the clock without any problems and not removed. The straps are tactilely pleasant and do not cause discomfort even in the heat.
Display
HUAWEI Band 7 is equipped with a bright 1.47-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 194 × 368. It has a high brightness, which is enough so that you do not need to look closely at the picture in bright sunlight. In the dark, the display does not blind your eyes.
In the settings, you can adjust the brightness in five settings, and you can also activate the automatic dimming of the backlight in the dark. In addition, you can set how long the screen will turn off and the time during which it will work, enable its activation by touching or raising the brush, and also select a screensaver, which in this case is the Always On mode.
Naturally, the device offers a huge selection of display themes, some of which are already loaded into the bracelet and can be installed directly through it. Others are downloaded through the application.
All in all, the HUAWEI Band 7 has an excellent screen in terms of color reproduction, brightness and image quality. There are not as many settings as the previously reviewed WATCH FIT 2 watches, but this is still a fitness bracelet that costs more than half the price, and therefore there are no questions. And, in general, the settings are enough to customize the tracker for yourself. I am also pleased with the fact that Always On Display was implemented in it, which budget devices often do not have.
Smartphone connection and health app
In order for the HUAWEI Band 7 bracelet to interact with a smartphone, you need to install the Health app on the latter, through which pairing and configuration are carried out.
I recently described this process in the HUAWEI WATCH FIT 2 review and, since there are almost no differences, it makes no sense to repeat.
I note that the Health app is adapted to the device that is connected to it, so downloading apps, downloading music, and adding bank cards for NFC payment is not available for HUAWEI Band 7. This is convenient as it does not cause confusion.
Interface
HUAWEI Band 7 runs on the Harmony OS 2.0 operating system, however, the interface in this device is simplified, which is understandable, given the relative simplicity of the tracker.
If Always On is disabled, you need to raise your hand or tap on the screen to unlock. If the mode is active, you must press the side button. After that, the user is taken to the main desktop. The information displayed on it depends on the selected topic. Among the options there are both dials in the style of minimalism, where only time is displayed, as well as more informative ones, showing steps, calories, heart rate and more.
Swipe left and right to switch between windows with different information. By default, these are heart rate, blood oxygen content, weather, music control, daily activity indicators.
Swipe up to access messages and calls. I am glad that the text can be read in full, and then, if desired, respond to it with templates or a smiley.
Swipe down opens the curtain, which displays the date, the remaining charge, the status of pairing with a smartphone, and there are also buttons to activate the night mode (vibration is turned off), screen backlight for 5 minutes, search for a smartphone, turn on and set an alarm, go to settings.
In the settings menu, you can set the settings for the screen, select the vibration sensitivity or disable it altogether. A pin code is also assigned here, the Do Not Disturb mode is activated, and the automatic workout recognition function is turned on. In addition, you can find out information about the device, update it, reset, reboot and turn off the tracker.
Pressing the physical button on the main screen opens a window for accessing all the tracker’s functions. Among them:
- start training:
- viewing training records;
- pulse;
- the level of oxygen in the blood;
- activity;
- dream;
- stress;
- breathing exercises;
- music;
- messages;
- weather;
- stopwatch;
- timer;
- alarm;
- torch;
- smartphone search.
Bracelet at work
HUAWEI Band 7 is an inexpensive fitness tracker, and its set of features is quite standard.
If we talk about his work as a companion for a smartphone, then Band 7 manages music, displays calls, notifications and messages. The latter can be fully viewed and answered with emoticons, ready-made templates or created independently through an application on a smartphone. This is convenient, for example, in the summer I carry a smartphone in a backpack and I don’t want to get it every time. Being able to read and respond to a message eliminates that need.
In addition, the bracelet has a display of the weather, lunar cycles and the current ultraviolet index, which will allow you to adjust the walk and not go out into the sun during periods of its acute activity.
Among the useful tools are an alarm clock (perceptible vibration will not let you oversleep), a stopwatch, a flashlight, a timer.
Health functions are presented:
- round-the-clock calculation of heart rate;
- pedometer;
- SpO2 measurement;
- calculation of calories burned;
- sleep monitoring;
- breathing exercise;
- control of stress levels;
- reminders of the need to move;
- 96 sports modes;
- Healthy Living program.
The HUAWEI Band 7 is fine with the calculation of indicators: the pulse matches the results of the blood pressure monitor, and the calories, steps and SpO2 are the same as on other devices, including the Watch Fi 2 watch. I have no questions about sleep monitoring: time awakening and falling asleep coincides with the real ones.
By default, the device offers 10 types of workouts, the rest can be added separately, but it seems to me that the basic options are quite enough, since they include all popular types:
- outdoor running;
- Treadmill;
- walking on the street;
- walking on the simulator;
- riding an exercise bike;
- swimming in the pool;
- jump rope;
- ellipse;
- rowing machine;
- other.
During a workout, the screen displays its time, distance traveled and heart rate, on the basis of which the type and effectiveness of the workout is calculated: warm-up, aerobic, fat burning, extreme.
Detailed information about activities, as well as recommendations for recovery and improving performance, can be viewed in the application on your smartphone after the data has been synchronized.
An interesting option is Healthy Living, which is a program to help you achieve certain results. First, you need to choose a goal: lose weight, improve well-being, increase stamina, etc. After that, the application sets the indicators that you need to achieve daily in order to achieve the goal.
The complex includes: getting up and going to bed at a set time, drinking water, daily smiling, weighing, breathing exercises, reminders to take a given number of steps and pay attention to physical exercises. Separately, you can add reminders to take medications and measure blood pressure.
The program is convenient, motivating, and constant reminders will not allow you to idle and make you fulfill your goals.
autonomy
As for autonomy, the manufacturer indicates 14 days of typical use.
I’ve been using the HUAWEI Band 7 for about 3 weeks now and charged them once in that time (the battery was almost full out of the box). At the same time, the bracelet is constantly connected via Bluetooth to the smartphone, the AlwaysOn mode is activated on it, the brightness is at the maximum level. Once a day, I start a workout mode. I also constantly receive notifications from instant messengers and email clients. Thus, we can say that the declared operating time is true.
I did not record the exact charging time, but it takes about an hour and a half. There is also fast charging, which in 5 minutes will provide capacity for 2 days of use.
Conclusion
The HUAWEI Band 7 is an affordable fitness tracker with a cute design, good build quality and a great screen that supports AlwaysOn mode. The model is compact and lightweight, but at the same time it has an informative frameless display with a rather large diagonal. It pleases with an accurate calculation of indicators, long autonomy and fast charging, a high level of moisture protection, a convenient and understandable interface. A good addition is the branded application.
If we talk directly about the functions, then I would say that the Band 7 has a standard set of features that is sufficient for many users. At the same time, there are not the most familiar, but useful options, such as the ability to fully read messages and respond to them, as well as the Healthy Living program.
In general, the HUAWEI Band 7 fitness bracelet proved to be excellent. The company has once again proved that it can make high-quality, convenient and useful wearable devices. Moreover, this is typical both for affordable devices, such as, for example, the hero of the review, and for more expensive models, which you can read about in our other materials at the links below.
