German football icon Uwe Seeler was hailed at a great athlete and person at a memorial ceremony in his SV Hamburg home stadium on Wednesday. SV Hamburg board member for sport Jonas Boldt named Seeler “one of us, only better” and German Football federation president Bernd Neuendorf said that “Uwe Seeler didn’t need a title to become an idol.” Hamburg mayor Peter Tschentscher said that Seeler stood “for fairness and team spirit.
