Embark Studios, made up of former Battlefield developers, is developing Project Discovery, a new team-based shooter that also led to the postponement of Arc Raiders.

After Embark Studios yesterday postponed the free-to-play shooter Arc Raiders until next year, former DICE and current Embark Studios boss Patrick Söderlund has confirmed that it’s not just additional development time that is needed for caused the shift. Rather, the developers also have a second project in development, which should come onto the market even before “Arc Raiders”.

Development went unexpectedly quickly

This is the team-based first-person shooter codenamed “Project Discovery”. The developers had already provided a short teaser for the game at the end of last year, which was reminiscent of “Battlefield” with melee weapons. In the meantime, Patrick Söderlund has also shared some more information about the project:

“As you may be aware, Embark has several projects in development. Beyond ARC Raiders, we’re also working on a team-based first-person shooter codenamed Project Discovery. We have some highly talented people with plenty of FPS experience here at Embark and the development of Project Discovery has progressed faster than we initially anticipated; especially in the past few months.”

This put you in the position of being able to release two games simultaneously. However, for a young and still relatively small studio, this is a huge drain on the team and resources as much is shared between both projects. That’s why it was decided that “Project Discovery” will be the studio’s first published game and “Arc Raiders” will be postponed to 2023. This also allows you to expand and enhance the Arc Raiders experience.
