Exit in 2012, the Wii U is one of Nintendo’s commercial flops. The console has dice its presentation at E3 2011 accumulated disappointments and it never got better (we have already explained all this to you many times, in particular HERE.) Still, the console had potential and some of these titles are even considered classics today. They have, for the most part, moreover, been worn on nintendo-switch where they fully contributed to its success. However, with hindsight, one can consider the Wii U like a draft of the nintendo-switch– which appears to be the perfect synthesis of all the Nintendo consoles released so far, and Nintendo had to go through this, perhaps… One of the problems of the Wii Uis that many promises have never been kept. For example, the power of the console interviewed during the first presentations was significantly reduced without any explanation and the applications supposed to highlight the GamePad either never came out, or they were never used correctly. The console was also to allow the use of two GamePads at the same time, which will never happen again… In this regard, in an interview with the channel Youtube MinnMax, Reggie son-Aiméthe former president of Nintendo of America explained why. And that makes sense. Not only the Wii U did not have a large enough base for this idea to materialize but above all Nintendo did not find a game that justifies it and uses it intelligently. Find the transcription of the passage of the interview below published by the site Nintendo Everything as well as the video of MinnMax.

What was interesting was that with the Wii U there was a full development plan for all the cool interactions and all the cool abilities that the system could do. And so, in this case, could technically several GamePads communicate with the Wii U? The answer was yes, but the install base was never large enough for this type of implementation to make sense. And most importantly, the company didn’t create a game where you needed another GamePad to have a great experience. Development simply never happened, and the Wii U’s lifespan ended up being so short that it never materialized.

Anyway, was it really useful and would it have changed anything in the fate of the Wii U ? As always, feel free to have your say in the comments.
