Will places from the original Final Fantasy 7 not appear in FF7 Remake 2 to stick to the open world structure? Are big narrative changes expected? Developers respond.

After long months of waiting, Square Enix has finally lifted the veil on FF7 Rebirth, the second part of the trilogy initiated by the remake. With a trailer that hints at a very different path than the one taken by the original, the developers wanted to reassure fans.

FF7 Remake 2 will not cut any content from the original game

The ending of Final Fantasy 7 Remake left little room for doubt the trilogy would partly tell a new story. However, the developers do not intend to deny the original opus and its events. Square Enix pundits have toured the Japanese editorial staff to answer questions that are burning everyone’s lips and Tetsuya Nomura is formal: no location or major event will be cut in FF7 Remake 2. However, teams wishing to add new narrative tracks to surprise regulars, the order may differ from what we remember.

The central point of the story has not been changed. As for the new mysteries different from the original, they allow players of the era to enjoy the game in a new way. The challenge we faced for this project was to include them without deviating from the original. Regarding game progression, there will be some changes. If while playing you have the impression that a passage has been deleted, it is because the structure of the story has changed a little, since it is a trilogy. While the order in which you visit certain locations may change, our policy is basically to not cut anything.

Yoshinori Kitase (producer) and Tetsuya Nomura (creative director)

The producer also insists that FF7 Rebirth was imagined with the intention of not destroying the image that fans have of the original game. The main axis of the story will therefore be faithful to him, but the method of telling it will change and will bring some new content to give a feeling of renewal. For him, it is not a cure for classic nostalgia, but a real impression of novelty. We will be able to discover the fruit of their work in the winter of 2023 on PS5, a period when FF7 Remake 2 is expected.
