Even though Conan the Barbarian is a real cult figure and not only thanks to the film adaptations Arnold Schwarzenegger can still rely on loyal fans today, not all productions based on the popular muscle man were a success. For example, 2011’s Conan, which starred Aquaman actor Jason Momoa, is considered a real disappointment.

On Rotten Tomatoes the film was literally thrown at with rotten vegetables: The 25% of a total of 150 critics are only just outbid by the 30% of over 25,000 viewers.

Critics and viewers agree that the film by Frankfurt advertising director Marcus Nispel quite a letdown was and we also named Conan in our review back then “no pearl of cinematic art”. But there’s one more person who absolutely hates the film – its main character!
Hollywood star Jason Momoa has in one interview with the magazine GQ now reveal that he counts the film among the worst works of his career: “I was involved in a lot of things that were really bad and films that weren’t in my hands. Conan was one of them. It was one of my best experiences ever and it was taken away from me and turned into a huge pile of shit *** transformed.”
As already mentioned, stands momoa anything but alone with this opinion, although it is of course surprising that he despises his own film as the main actor. On the other hand, his words seem to indicate that the problems with the film were not apparent at the time of shooting and man conan only made it in post-production into what people saw in the cinemas at the time.
Even today, Conan the Barbarian is still a real cult figure, although nothing has come of the planned live-action Netflix series with Arnold Schwarzenegger as the aged warrior.
