As a reminder, the Black Ops narrative arc takes place over several decades, starting in the heart of the Cold War before exploring a fictional conflict in the near future. Call of Duty Black Ops 4 followed this arc and offered a multiplayer-only experience while introducing the first Battle Royale mode in the Call of Duty franchise, Blackout mode. While Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War had chosen the soft reboot by resuming the direct sequel to the first episode, here is what we could expect from this canceled campaign:

• The campaign mode was called Career and consisted of 2v2 flash missions in which the player had to get from point A to point B as quickly as possible. Like what Call of Duty Black Ops: Declassified, the PlayStation Vita-exclusive episode, had offered, it was likely a faster experience, without pre-calculated cutscenes.
• The story takes place in the year 2070, just after the events of Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3, when Earth experienced “The Year of Chaos”. This is a context in which the world is suffering from a lack of resources following a global pandemic and a succession of climatic disasters. Terribly speaking, these days…
• Two playable factions: The Free People’s Army (FPA) and The World United Nations (WUN) which would have clashed in six different locations such as Ethiopia or Switzerland.
