According to media and insiders, Apple is working on its own autonomous electric vehicle. The entire system, which combines hardware and software parts, is tested by engineers on Lexus vehicles, which are a kind of test benches.

Reportedly The Informationthe company once again faced many problems related to the imperfection of the Titan project system.

The first problem arose during the filming of the video. According to the sources of the publication, they wanted to show it to Apple CEO Tim Cook to show how well the Titan project is developing. However, in reality, everything is not so simple. During the filming, it became clear that the drone travels well in areas that it knows, but is poorly oriented where it has either never been, or knows these places poorly.

Apple engineers delivered cars to Montana – the team loves the dramatic scenery of this region. However, the cars drove very uncertainly, with difficulty kept at intersections in their own lane, and also ran into curbs several times.

The second incident took place at a location that, according to The Information, Apple’s autonomous cars didn’t know very well. At a speed of just over 24 km / h, the Titan moved behind the runner. As it later turned out, the runner was not properly recognized and the car only slightly corrected the movement. As a result, the person behind the wheel took control only in the last seconds and applied the brakes, stopping the Lexus only a few feet from the runner. If not for him, then Titan would have shot down a man.

Involuntarily, the incident with the Uber drone that occurred in 2018 comes to mind. Everything was much more terrible there:

And the third point: Craig Federighi, who is one of the most influential persons in the company, is skeptical about Project Titan. You can understand it: the project has been in development for several years, there is a terrible staff turnover, one boss is replaced by another, the release seems to be not getting any closer, and there seem to be more and more problems every day.
