Microsoft has officially stopped work on the Internet Explorer browser. It became a high-profile event in the industry. Following a long tradition, Mozilla’s Firefox browser team sent a cake to Microsoft.

In a tweet from the developers of the Edge browser that replaced Internet Explorer, appeared cake photo from Mozilla. On its top is a large IE logo and an ironic inscription: “You were the first.”

Cake

Browser developers send cakes to each other, a tradition that has been around for almost nine years. In 2006, Microsoft sent the Firefox team a cake to celebrate the release of Firefox 2.0. Cakes eventually replaced cupcakes as the release cycle for major updates accelerated.

Cake

Mozilla sent a cake to Microsoft in 2012 for the release of Internet Explorer 10. The Google Chrome development team later joined the tradition.

Internet Explorer was permanently removed in June. However, Microsoft has kept its engine as a mode in its new Chromium-powered Edge browser. It will be supported until 2029 and eventually will most likely be another reason to get cake.
