Rumors have been around for a long time about a new edition of the shooter classic GoldenEye 007. Even before the remaster was officially confirmed, the future of the game seems to be in question due to current circumstances.

There have been so many rumors about a remaster of GoldenEye 007 that this could almost be considered a certainty even without an official announcement. However, there are currently problems with the development work, as well-known insider Jeff Grubb is now saying.

The mostly well-informed leaker emphasizes that the work is currently on hold and it remains to be seen how the GoldenEye 007 remaster will continue. Reason: The war in Ukraine.

Grubb had responded to a question from a Twitter user asking about the status of the project. GoldenEye is in this “intermediate stage” “because of the war” – and apparently it is currently rather unclear whether and when the work can be continued again. Incidentally, Jeff Grubb himself did not provide any further details on the subject, but Eurogamer was able to confirm the information.

Previously, achievements for GoldenEye 007 had surfaced online earlier this year – which is surprising when there is no current game to match. As a result, the rumors about a remaster became more and more common. The original was released for the Nintendo 64 in 1997; the cult studio Rare, which now belongs to Microsoft, was responsible for the development.
