It is well known, good news never comes alone. But with The Last of Us Remake they come in sets of three. Two are about game development, one is new info.
If it has not been unanimous since its announcement, The Last of Us Part 1 nevertheless remains one of the most anticipated PS5 exclusives of this year. And good news for those who are waiting for it: its development is officially complete.
The Last of Us Part 1 is gold, the game will soon reappear
The Last of Us Remake is gold two months before its release. An industry designation that signifies that development is complete and the game is ready to be printed on disc. No delay to be expected, therefore, the remake will be available on September 2 on PS5. Rather reassuring news, because it is quite rare for a game to pass this stage so early.
This will obviously not be enough to convince the most reluctant who find the game too expensive and that the graphic update does not justify a new purchase. The comparison videos shared by the editor weren’t to everyone’s taste. Never mind, Naughty Dog announces that it will soon give news of The Last of Us Part 1, probably through a State of Play or a post on the PS Blog. No date, but the studio invites us to stay tuned.
Development without crunch this time?
And as two good news never come alone, it seems that this time the development of The Last of Us Part 1 was not done in pain. The studio was indeed renowned for its culture of crunch, an evil that affects the industry enormously even if consciences are waking up. Naughty Dog has reportedly avoided working its employees to exhaustion this time around. Anthony Vaccaro, Principal Environment Artist for more than ten years and who officiates at the Dogs made a very remarkable statement. The Last of Us Remake is his first project that he completed without crunch.
“ This is the first time in my 13 year career and across multiple studios that I haven’t needed crunch to finish a game. It feels really good. Especially with the same level of quality as TLOU 2. There’s still a lot of work to do, but I’m proud of these major changes that have made the studio healthier. It is hoped that these working conditions apply to all departments and teams that worked on the game.
