Summer will be hot! The very high temperatures have not escaped anyone, including Nintendo, which today warns us about the use of the Switch in these periods of high heat.
We are not the only ones to be hot, our electronic devices too. The Nintendo Switch would be susceptible to overheating, which could damage the integrity of the console, but also cause burns. Here are the tips from the Japanese brand to avoid this kind of problem as much as possible.
It’s heating up for the Nintendo Switch!
In a series of tweets published on July 11, the Japanese branch warns of the potential dangers of heat for the integrity of the console, but also for yours. Indeed, one can read this type of warning: If your skin is in direct contact with a hot part for a long time, it may cause burns. » You have been warned.
The tweets in question link to question-and-answer pages in Japanese. To guard against potential complaints, Nintendo specifies that the overheating of the console should not be considered a defect. The manufacturer has even provided for this scenario:
“The console can get hot while charging or when in operation (even during standby) […] If the temperature gets too high, it can automatically shut down to protect the components. »
How to prevent your Nintendo Switch from overheating
Big N’s first advice is to use your console in an environment where the temperature is between 5 and 35 degrees Celsius. An easy tip to apply if you play indoors. On the other hand, the temperature can rise much higher if you use the portable console in a car or outdoors, including in the shade during periods of heat wave.
The other advice from Nintendo concerns the console’s air outlets, which must not be obstructed. These vents are essential to improve airflow and optimally cool the Switch’s components. On the Switch OLED as on the Lite version and the original model, the holes and slots that evacuate the hot air from the console are on the upper edge and on the back, on the lower part.
If you play in TV mode with the dock, be sure to install it “in a place that does not retain heat”. The air vents of the dock are positioned similarly to those of the console. In general, Nintendo recommends leaving at least 10 centimeters around the air outlets for good efficient cooling.
Nintendo is therefore taking the lead to avoid any incidents you may encounter with your console. To reduce the heating of its console, the Japanese brand could also use a better engraving finesse for its processor. A change that we hope to see on a possible “New Switch” which is more and more expected.
