After the US Astra rocket took off, a major failure declared the launch failed! Two NASA satellites buried with
In the early morning of this morning (June 13), Beijing time, the US aerospace private company Astra’s rocket mission from Cape Canaveral failed, and two NASA hurricane tracking satellites were “burial” incidentally.
This rocket is called LV0010,Due to the premature shutdown of the thrusters, the second stage of the flight suffered a major failure and failed to send the payload into the intended orbit.
It is reported that this is the second time that the Astra rocket has failed this year. The last time, the unlucky customer in February was still NASA, and the four satellites in the ELaNa 41 mission were scrapped. That was also Astra’s first commercial launch attempt.
Fortunately, Astra repaired the fairing-related problems a month later, and the LV0009 rocket successfully sent the load to the predetermined orbit for the customer.
An aerospace company founded in 2016, Astra completed its first successful orbital test last November.
Coming back to this failure, the two satellites are actually the first part of NASA’s TROPICS mission, which is planned to launch six satellites in three separate batches. The reason why NASA did not find SpaceX, Virgin, Roket Lab, etc. is because Astra has the lowest price, and the total price of the three launches is only $7.95 million.
It seems that NASA is dreaming of low investment, high risk, and high income, but Astra is not expected to be too powerful. It’s unclear if there will be any changes to the launch schedule for TROPICS’ remaining four satellites.
