Today, July 13, a supermoon can be seen in central Russia.

This is a phenomenon when the Moon approaches the Earth at a distance closer than 362 thousand km and the moments of the passage of perigee and the full moon are no more than 3 days apart in time. Coincidences of these moments happen every year, but close ones are rare.

Perigee will occur on July 13 at 12:09 Moscow time. The moon will approach the Earth at 357263 km – this is the minimum distance from the Earth in 2022.

When and how to watch a supermoon

The full moon will appear above the horizon after 21:00 and around midnight reaches its maximum height above the southern horizon. The supermoon will be in the constellation of Sagittarius.

There will be a full moon at 21:38 UTC.

For observations, special equipment is not required, the supermoon will be visible to the naked eye.

If the weather is clear, then to the east you can also see two planets: Saturn and a little more to the left (still to the east) Jupiter.
