It was during the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase that the first major DLC for Forza Horizon 5 was unveiled last night with the return of a rather crazy theme: Hot Wheels. After a surprising DLC released in May 2017 in Forza Horizon 3, dragsters and other monstrous machines are back on ever crazier tracks, but the economic model of this extension will remain similar to that of the old games.

Hot Wheels DLC will not be in Game Pass

Indeed, many Internet users wondered if the Hot Wheels DLC for Forza Horizon 5 would be available in the Xbox Game Pass given that a fairly substantial “Xbox Game Pass” banner was visible at the end of the trailer. A legitimate question, of course, but whose answer was quite obvious: no, this DLC, like the old DLCs of Forza, will not be available in the Xbox Game Pass.

It will be possible to get it on the Microsoft Store for €19.99 (available for pre-order now). It is also included in the Forza Horizon 5 Expansion Pack at €34.99 including the two expansions planned in Forza, including the Hot Wheels expansion. Finally, this same Expansion Pack is part of the Forza Horizon 5 Premium Expansion Pack including all the game’s DLC (VIP Subscription, Car Pass, Welcome Pack and therefore Expansion Pack). It will be possible to find these DLCs on sale over the next few weeks.

Light is therefore shed on the economic model of this next DLC, a model which ultimately remains similar to that of the old Forza Horizon DLCs. We will note all the same a much longer development time on this DLC Hot Wheels than for the previous DLCs. On Forza Horizon 3 and 4, the two DLCs were usually released 7 months after the game was released while the first DLC for Forza Horizon 5 only arrives in June.

We also note the absence of a rather serious themed DLC since Playground Games first offered extensions in rather realistic natural areas followed by more crazy DLCs in a second step: Storm Island for Forza Horizon 2, Blizzard Mountain for Forza Horizon 3 and Fortune Island for Forza Horizon 4. See what the studio is concocting for the second DLC for Forza Horizon 5. Forza Horizon 5: Hot Wheels is out July 19 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
