Constantly replenishing our “Contacts” with new people, we sometimes do not even think that they may already be there. As a result, this list may abound in duplicates. This situation may also occur when synchronizing data with various services. Dealing with duplicates is boring and inconvenient, but iOS 16 (installation instructions) has a convenient solution for this.

The update received a special feature to merge duplicate contacts, once and for all solving the problem of having several different records for the same person.
If you have more than one contact card for the same person, then the Contacts app in iOS 16 (or tab Contacts in the application Telephone) will automatically detect the duplicate and notify you that duplicates have been found.
Interface for the new function “Duplicates Found” located at the top of the contact list. By tapping this button, you will be able to see which other entries have matches. It remains only to choose an action – ignore the situation or combine the elements. In the second case, press the blue button to merge all duplicate contact cards into one.
Unfortunately, iOS previously didn’t have a built-in way to quickly manage duplicate contacts in the Contacts app. So the new feature will clearly help to put things in order for those who have a lot of numbers written down. Previously, this feature has already been implemented on Mac, but it was not available on iOS devices.
