In the “Mass Effect” series, players can also enter into romances with their alien companions, among other things. One of the writers has now stated that he was surprised that fans even wanted the option.







Author Drew Karpyshyn recently answered a few questions from users on Reddit in a Q&A session. The video game scenario writer, screenwriter, and novelist is currently on the road promoting his new book, Time Kings of Las Vegas, but was also happy to answer questions about other projects. For example, Karpyshyn stated that he was surprised by the feedback on the alien romances in the “Mass Effect” series.

Fans ‘loved’ the aliens in ‘Mass Effect’

Drew Karpyshyn is not only known as the author of popular books from the extended universe of “Star Wars”. The Canadian also worked for the developer BioWare for many years. During his time at the studio, Karpyshyn worked on Baldur’s Gate 2, “Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic” as well as the first two parts of the “Mass Effect” series.

During his Reddit Q&A, Drew Karpyshyn was asked if it was always the plan to bring the turian Garrus Vakarian and the quarian Tali’Zorah nar Rayya into Mass Effect 2 to make them companions again and give them a romance. Or if this happened after the team saw how popular the characters were. “We always knew they would come back as companions. I was a little surprised that fans wanted the romance options,” the author replied. “Tali was kinda like me…you never saw her face so it was easy to imagine something vaguely human (but she had those weird feet!). Garrus took me by surprise – but when we saw what the fans wanted, we decided to make it happen!”

In addition, it was recently announced that the award-winning Author Mary DeMarle attached to the developer Has.
