One might wonder if Heinrich secretly enjoys being defeated in the metagame. Today he has to go on a mage hunt in a 2D soulslike as punishment – if he finds the way.

This content would not be financially viable without the premium users. But we urgently need more supporters: You can help too!

If there’s one thing we know about Heinrich Lenhardt, it’s that he’s not a big fan of Soulslikes. And 2D platformers aren’t exactly his favourites, either, here he can only warm to a few select gems. So how devilish would it be to give him a mix of both genres? That’s exactly what Jörg Langer thought too and sentenced him to this last hour of punishment Salt and Sacrifice to play.

In this one, our favorite expat is an inquisitor tasked with killing mages. Of course, the oversized magicians don’t just stand directly in front of the charming duelists, but hide cowardly behind smaller opponents. And of course, very typical elements of the Soulslike formula are back in the game, meaning: if you die, all enemies in the area respawn and you lose your experience points, with only a chance to get them back at the place of your death. But of course Salt and Sacrifice also stands out from the 3D competition through smaller details. For example, through the said magician hunt. Now, of course, the question is: how much of it will Heinrich see in an hour and what will his verdict be after an hour, will he continue playing or not?

Everything has an end, only the sausage has two. As we’ve announced in the past, we’re burying the metagame as an element in the critics’ hour. If you don’t understand the term at all, let me explain it to you very briefly: If one critic manages to correctly guess the conclusion of the other, there is a point. Whoever reaches five first wins and can sentence the other to a penalty hour in which he lets him try a particularly bad, difficult or otherwise mean game. But because Jörg won almost every time, there was simply no tension and so we buried this element.
