German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier visited the Ahr Valley on Thursday to mark the first anniversary of deadly flooding that caused widespread devastation in the western German region. Steinmeier came face to face with some of the people affected, as well as talking to rescue workers and local politicians in the partially destroyed wine-growing villages of Altenahr and Dernau.
