The next project from game designer Hideo Kojima (Death Stranding) is created exclusively for Xbox Game Studios.

As an independent studio, Kojima Productions can choose which partner to approach a new project with. There should be enough interested parties, because as the inventor of Konami’s video game series MetalGear Founder Hideo Kojima is considered one of the world’s best-known game designers, who has already received several awards for his life’s work.

Kojima’s studio has been under contract with Sony Interactive since 2015 – 2016 became the action adventure Death Stranding announced, eventually launching for the PlayStation 4 in November 2019. An extended Director’s Cut for the PlayStation 5 followed in autumn 2021.

Now Kojima is changing console camps: Because his next, still unannounced project is a completely new brand and is being created for Microsoft – above all for Xbox Series X and Xbox Series and presumably also for PC. The cooperation was officially announced as the final chord at the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase last Sunday.

It is only known so far that the game should benefit from Microsoft’s cloud technology – as is particularly impressive in the Microsoft Flight Simulator is to visit. In this case, too, the game world is likely to be based on game data that is stored and generated on Microsoft servers. The new publisher promises a “Xbox game like you’ve never seen it before”: Expectations are raised to the maximum level right from the start.

Like every Microsoft-owned Xbox title, this new game will also be available on the day of release via Xbox Game Pass at no additional cost. But it will be many months before that happens: So far there has been neither a name nor a description of the game and certainly no date.

Kojima Productions then hurriedly made it clear via Twitter that they would continue to have a “very good partnership” with Sony PlayStation – which in the PR business trades as a so-called ‘zero statement’ because it reflects a matter of course. In addition, the studio is exploring other business areas, such as film and music.
