With the upcoming Ipad OS 16, Apple wants to further blur the boundaries between tablets and laptops by giving hardware manufacturers the ability to supply drivers for equipment connected to an iPad. This is made possible by allowing developers to use Driverkit to deliver drivers for externally connected equipment via apps. The driver should then be able to be used by the operating system as well as by other installed apps.
The developers must be able to choose whether the equipment should be connected as USB or as PCI Express, and the only thing required for this is that the iPad runs Ipad OS 16 and belongs to the Ipad that has an M processor, currently an M1 processor.
The drivers that have already been developed for Mac computers with M1 processor should be easily adaptable to suit even the iPad.
