After a really, really long wait, Starfield is finally more than just some concept art – and after the first gameplay trailer, developer Bethesda now also confirms that an old Skyrim tradition will be back in space.
Starfield becomes like Skyrim in one respect
During Sunday’s Xbox and Bethesda Showcase, fans were finally able to see Starfield gameplay. Many questions are still open, but Bethesda boss Todd Howard is already promising almost 100 star systems and up to 1000 explorable planets. Skyrim suddenly looks tiny.
In one aspect, however, Starfield is supposed to be just like Skyrim again. On the official Twitter account, the developer confirms that dialogues will again take place in the first-person perspective and that your character remains completely silent. With this, Starfield is again based on most of the older Bethesda role-playing games. Only Fallout 4 is an outlier in which the main character actually got a soundtrack.
Fallout vs. Skyrim: To Voice or Not to Voice?
The confirmation from Bethesda is well received by the fans under the Twitter message. The silent protagonist is preferred by many who like each other completely into their own character want. After all, the journey between the stars should be your adventure. The astronaut shouldn’t sound completely different from you.
On the other hand, of course, dialogues seem much more natural when they actually managed by two people and not just from an NPC talking to a wall. It also makes it easier to tell emotional stories. After all, the story surrounding Geralt in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is so good because you’re following a person with a face and a voice, and not just a placeholder for yourself. In the conflict between the silent and speaking protagonist, there is arguably no definite correct answer.
