A new fraudulent scheme related to bonuses from banks is spreading in Russia. This is reported by the official Telegram channel of the Bank of Russia.

According to the source, lately, attackers have been actively calling Russians under the guise of bank employees and offering them to cash out bonuses and points from banks – most often, they are accumulated in the form of cashback or as part of individual loyalty to the client. Fraudsters voice a “special offer”: convert all accumulated points and bonuses into rubles.

Naturally, for this operation, the “bank employee” will need the victim’s card details, as well as a verification SMS code – according to legend, they are needed to confirm the operation and pay the commission for converting points. Then everything is as usual: no money, no “bank employee”. Fraudsters simply empty the victim’s card and disappear.

There is only one way to protect yourself from this – do not take the word of people calling from unknown numbers. If you want to check if there is such an offer that you have been voiced, then just call your bank’s support service yourself. And even more so, you can’t give any personal data or bank details to strangers on the phone.
