Microsoft is preparing to completely shut down its legendary Internet Explorer browser. It is reported by 9to5Mac with reference to the official statement of the tech giant.
Internet Explorer is a proprietary browser from Microsoft, which is native to Windows and is perceived as an integral part of it. IE was released in August 1995 under a license bought by Microsoft – that is, in fact, it first appeared in Windows 95. It reached its peak of popularity in 2003, after which it went into the shadows, losing to competitors. Since that time, the browser has wandered into each new version of the OS, but has not particularly achieved functional progress.
In 2015, it stopped receiving updates, and by that time it was rather slow and inconvenient. Internet Explorer has been nicknamed “the download browser for other browsers” because every new Windows user will open IE first thing and type something like “chrome download” into the search bar.
Previously, Microsoft has already announced a complete abandonment of Internet Explorer. The company writes that Edge – the new native browser for Windows 10 and 11 – is much better and more convenient than IE. In addition, Edge received a special backward compatibility mode with Internet Explorer for those web resources that have not yet been updated.
The shutdown of Internet Explorer will take place from tomorrow, June 15, 2022. Less than a day is left until this point, so Microsoft strongly recommends moving from it to Edge with all your bookmarks and other data.
By the way, the company does not specify how exactly it will get rid of IE. We do not yet know whether it will remain in the system as a non-working element, but most likely the browser will simply be “cut out” with the next Windows update.
