The third-person fantasy roguelike is set in a medieval world where players must use a raven to fend off invading forces.

Avalanche Studios is working on several games, including apparently a project called “Ravenbound: Tales of Avalt”, thanks to a leak, the first details got through. Leaker Shaun Weber and the mostly well-informed journalist Tom Henderson are responsible for this.

Weber and Henderson describe the title, codenamed Jackdaw, as a “new third-person fantasy roguelike game.” Set in a fictional medieval world, players are tasked with fighting invaders. By transforming into a raven, similar to Senu from “Assassin’s Creed Origins”, enemies can be spied on from above or paths can be explored.

After death, it starts all over again

If the player dies, they start over and choose one of three “Vessels”, each with different abilities and weapons. Each deck starts with three cards – a Culture, a Weapon, and an Trait card. Players can buy new maps and upgrade them with coins looted from enemy camps.

New cards are also awarded when leveling up. According to Weber, players will “get a kind of Dead Cells, but in an open world.” The fights will apparently take place in real time.

Henderson, in turn, wants from sources have experiencedthat Ravenbound will feature a seasonal structure with new quests, rewards, and enemies coming into the game each month. It is still unclear when the game will be revealed. But Weber noted that it appears to be in a “good state of development.”

Avalanche Studios announced last year that they were working on a new open-world co-op game for Xbox Game Pass. Much information is not available on this project as the studio only revealed a short teaser trailer during last year’s Xbox & Bethesda Showcase.

In a tweet following the announcement, Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg emphasized that the game in the 1970s is set in a fictional country called Bayan. And a few days ago, Microsoft filed new trademarks for “Contraband.”
