On June 14, according to reports, Ford issued an announcement saying,48,924 Mustang Mach-E electric vehicles are being recalled due to battery overheating safety concerns.
The models in question are not only new cars, but also Mustang Mach-Es built at its Cuautitlan plant in Mexico between May 27, 2020 and May 24, 2022.
According to the recall notice, the fault involved a potential overheating of the vehicle’s battery high-voltage contactor, which could cause the vehicle to fail to start or lose power while driving.
Overheating can cause arcing and deformation of electrical contact surfaces. This can cause the contactor (which is an electronically controlled switch) to remain open or solder closed,And lead to loss of power while driving, thereby increasing the risk of an accident.
Ford will perform software updates for the recalled models, the secondary on-board diagnostic control module and the battery energy control module, and NHTSA has not launched an investigation into the fault.
Ford says the problem can be fixed via OTA, which will be released next month. Owners of the MustangMach-E can also take their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer for a more direct software fix.
