Slow battles, space and planets are separate realities, and more.
The first gameplay from Starfield is out and we’ve also found out that the protagonist of the game will not talk. Now IGN has interviewed Todd Howard, who shared a lot of interesting information.
With over a thousand planets to explore, it goes without saying that they must use procedural / procedural generation, as it will be impossible to create them all by hand. Howard says that once good tools have been developed that can generate these planets, there is not a huge difference in difficulty between creating a planet and creating a thousand planets.
However, he adds that Bethesda in this game created more content by hand than they did in anything else. The hand-created content is mainly what we will see when we play through the game’s action, but beyond that we will be able to give way to the desire for adventure and go out into the world to explore and experience randomly generated content.
On the other hand, a giant ice ball is sometimes just a giant ice ball, so on all planets there may not be much to do, other than build an outpost and chill.
If you want something completely human-built, you can go to the four big cities in the game, where New Atlantis is the largest city that Bethesda has ever created. There is also the headquarters of the organization Constellation, so much of the game’s action seems to revolve around this city.
And speaking of the plot, so be it Starfields be a little longer than previous Bethesda games – if they previously lasted 25 hours then learn Starfield lie for 30-40 hours. But that’s just the main plot.
As for the space battles, they have taken inspiration from games like Mech Warrior, which means that it is a fairly slow process that seems to be more about smart maneuvering than lightning-fast reflexes. Just as we glimpsed in the trailer, it is also possible to dock with other ships to board them.
Something flight-related that has been speculated about is whether we can fly directly from space down to the planets without a charge screen, and Howard confirms that we will not be able to do that. They see the planet’s surface and space as two different realities and say that it is not worth spending a lot of time developing the transition between the two, because it is simply not very important for the players.
Starfield will be released sometime during the first half of 2023 for PC and Xbox Series X / S.
