Cancel sending email from iPhone: how it works in iOS 16

Important: The option to cancel sending an email is only available for a very short period of time after clicking the “Send” button.

With iOS 16 running on your iPhone, open the Mail app. Immediately after sending an email, look at the bottom of the screen. Select Cancel Send – only available for 7-10 seconds after the email is sent – but may depend on your internet connection. You will see the draft email again, select “Cancel” in the top left corner to cancel sending the email. You can confirm that the email was not sent by looking at the Sent Items folder – and it will be saved in the Drafts folder.

Here’s what the process for unsending an email from an iPhone looks like:

As mentioned above, you will only get the option to unsend an email if you catch it right after clicking the send button. In my early testing, the button would disappear after 7 seconds.

Once you click the “Cancel Send” button, you will see the draft email again, just click “Cancel” as shown below. You can then edit or simply delete the unsent email from the Drafts folder.
