High On Life: full of information on the game of Rick & Morty dads | Xbox One

If there’s one game that surprised the public during the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase this Sunday, it’s High On Life! Developed by the dads of the famous Rick & Morty series, they take the time to explain to us a little more in detail the ideas behind this wacky and colorful game.

Earth invaded for drugs

The story begins with the extraterrestrial invasion of earth by a cartel of criminal aliens. Humans are kidnapped to be sold on the black market as narcotics. You read that right, the aliens are drugging themselves by placing humans in silos and feeling emotions similar to ours.

You will play a human who will have to face this sordid alien invasion. Your goal will be to eliminate the six leaders of the cartel in order to free the humans from their grip. To do this, you will be able to choose the target you are going to hunt down and a portal will teleport you to the world where it is.

The design director, Erich Meyr, tells us that the artistic direction is a mixture between Blade Runner and the Muppet Show. Everything that came to their mind had to be in the game in order to create a completely crazy and believable universe. According to Erich, keeping the narrative simple allowed them to create a game that suited them.

The weapons all look like human guns, but they are a full-fledged alien race called the Gatlians. Exploited by the alien cartel, they all have a personality with unique abilities and will help you fight it out. The more you advance in the adventure, the more weapons you will have in your arsenal.

According to Justin Roiland, studio founder and voice of Rick in Rick & Morty, the experience from player to player will vary depending on which weapon they play most often. They act as companions with many different reactions.

For developers, the most important element is to bring their humor into the gaming world. Also according to them, if you have found a way to break the rules of the game by going outside the walls, the game will tell you in a memorable and fun way. High On Life will be like a TV show that players can dive into and shake things up.

High On Life will be available in October 2022 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC. The game will be playable upon release on Xbox Game Pass, PC Game Pass, and Xbox Cloud Gaming.
