Apple Music Sessions
Apple says performances include new versions of existing songs as well as new covers.
Today, Apple Music introduces Apple Music Sessions, exclusive live releases featuring the world’s most popular and emerging artists, all in Spatial Audio.
Recorded at Apple Music studios around the world, Apple Music Sessions give artists the opportunity to reimagine and recreate hits from their catalog as well as creative covers of favorite classics. These unique performances are also filmed, resulting in a special live performance collection of brand new Spatial Audio tracks and accompanying live music videos, available exclusively to Apple Music fans worldwide.
Apple Music Sessions officially kicks off today with releases from Carrie Underwood and Tenille Towns recorded at Apple Music’s new state-of-the-art studios in Nashville, Tennessee.
Ronnie Dunn and Ingrid Andress are next, and while this already covers both country and western music (© H.Simpson) – Apple promises other music genres will be introduced later.
Carrie Underwood
During the session, Underwood performed her hit “Ghost Story” as well as a stripped-down version of “Blown Away” and a cover of Ozzy Osbourne’s “Mama, I’m Coming Home”.
“Being in the studio with Apple Music has been an incredible experience and I’m thrilled to be able to share these unique, stripped down versions of three songs I love with my fans,” said Underwood. “We had a lot of fun reimagining these big visual songs and presenting them in a different way.”
“I’ve always been a fan of Ozzy Osbourne and ‘Mom I’m Coming Home’ is one of my favorite songs,” Underwood continued. “I always thought it was very much like a country song and I wanted to cover it for a long time. It was a really fun opportunity for me to be able to finally make this possible. I hope we made Ozzy proud and I hope he enjoys it.”
Tenil Towns
Country singer-songwriter Tenille Townes performed her hits “Same Road Home” and “Somebody’s Daughter” as well as a gritty, soulful cover of Etta James’ “At Last”.
“It was so great to capture the spirit of what it’s like to play my songs live with my band during the Apple Music Sessions,” said Towns. “The new space appears to be an anchor for our Nashville music community and I was honored to be a part of its breakthrough.”
“I chose ‘Same Road Home’ because I really like the idea in the song that we’re more alike as people than we often realize,” she continued. “Somebody’s Daughter” is one of those songs that has grown with us as a band over the last couple of years and it was a lot of fun to showcase our version live. And “At Last” is a song that sets the bar for me as a writer and singer. I’ve never recorded a version of it before and have enjoyed including it in my Apple Music Sessions.”
Apple Music sessions are available to Apple Music subscribers.
