Tekken 2 is a classic, but is it worth $9,999? (Image: Bandai Namco)

A bug in the American PlayStation Store has briefly caused confusion. The beating classic Tekken 2 was offered for a whopping 9,999 US dollars. We explain to you what the error is all about and how the Internet reacts.

New price record for Tekken 2

There is always a heated discussion about the price policy in the PlayStation Store. Outside of a sale, games there often cost 70 euros. Even if the retail version of the same game is now only a fraction of the original price.

That Sony but a 27 year old spanking game for a whopping $9,999 offers in the PSN Store is a different house number. This price was shown to US players in connection with the PlayStation classic Tekken 2.

It is quite obvious that about a bug in the system. Nevertheless, the matching screenshot quickly made the rounds on Twitter and Reddit.

That’s how she reacted, for example Tekken director Katsuhiro Harada at the absurd price. From this point at the latest, there was no stopping the network. Countless memes and sarcastic statements followed in the comments.

Including the popular one Dragon Ball Memes, in which antagonist Vegeta aggressively shouts “It’s Over 9,000!” roars.

Many users confirm (not really serious) the crazy price but also in the comments, at least it is a masterpiece like Tekken 2 worth every dollar.

How does the price bug come about?

In fact, the bug is not an unknown problem. Other games on PlayStation Store have also been priced at $9,999 in the past. This affected, for example, the role-playing game Greedfall and the puzzle game Mr. Driller.

This is always the case for a placeholder, if the system cannot really classify the game. In the case of Tekken 2, that’s because the beat ’em up is available in the US via the new PlayStation Plus subscription, but isn’t available for regular purchase.

Incidentally, Sony has now corrected the error.
