Released July 15, 2022. Build 19G71.
Two versions of iOS 15.6 were released at once with the same build number. This is the first public beta for everyone to help Apple test the firmware and iOS 15.6 Release Candidate 2 for developers. Let’s analyze what’s new in this firmware and how to install it on the iPhone.
All iPhone owners, from iPhone 6s and 6s plus and up, can install iOS 15.6 public beta. How to install public beta versions of firmware, see this thread about the first public beta of iOS 16 (everything is the same). iOS 15.6 can be installed on all iPhones that support iOS 13 and iOS 14.
What’s new in iOS 15.6
- Sometimes on the iPhone there was a message about memory overflow, although in reality there was enough free space. Fixed.
- You can restart the live broadcast, as well as rewind or pause it in the TV app.
- The Safari browser sometimes jumped to the content of the previous page. Fixed.
- We fixed a bug with vibration feedback sometimes disappearing in the Mail app when the Braille screen font setting was enabled (for the visually impaired).
- Fixed many minor bugs.
Why is this public beta needed?
Apple releases infrequently public beta versions of firmware, which can be installed not only by developers, but by absolutely all owners of iPhones compatible with firmware. Typically, public betas are released before major versions of iOS are released. For example, before the release of iOS 15 or iOS 16. Minor updates are rarely tested among ordinary iPhone owners (not developers).
The main goal of the public beta is to cover as many iPhone users as possible in order to identify all the errors in the released firmware. Apparently, Apple is striving to make iOS 15.6 as stable as possible. It is possible that iOS 15.6 will be the last sub-version in the iOS 15 series.
iOS 15.6 has a small number of changes in functionality, but many bugs have been fixed. Even in its beta phase, iOS 15.6 is extremely stable and makes a very good impression. This is exactly the stability firmware that the iPhone deserves.
Simultaneously with iOS 15.6 public beta, the iPadOS 15.6 public beta and iPadOS 15.6 Release Candidate 2 firmware for developers was released.
